Supporters argue that online grooming, exploitation, cyberbullying, and addictive platform design have created risks that many parents cannot manage alone.<\/p>\n

Those in favour of the law believe social media companies have failed to adequately protect children and that government intervention is necessary to make platforms safer.<\/p>\n

Critics, however, raise concerns about privacy and enforcement. Age verification may require users to provide personal information, and many question whether teenagers will simply find ways around the restrictions. Others note that social media can provide valuable opportunities for learning, friendship, and support.<\/p>\n

At the same time, DEFEND’s 65square initiative offers a different approach. Rather than focusing primarily on government regulation, it emphasizes parental involvement. Under the model, parents remain actively engaged and in good standing within the community, helping to create a safer online environment for their children.<\/p>\n
